Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has insisted he is not thinking about revenge on Real Madrid despite failing to win any of their last eight meetings.

The Reds drew just once against Los Blancos, a behind-closed-doors clash in the 2020 Champions League quarter-finals. As the Spanish giants cruised to a 3-1 aggregate win.

Van Dijk did not play in either of the 2021 games, but he has lost four out of four while on the pitch for Liverpool, including the 2018 and 2022 finals in Kiev and Paris.

“I’ll be honest with you, I don’t need the fuel (for revenge) to be fully prepared, ufabet http://ufabet999.app ” the Dutch centre-back said.

“But it’s the Champions League, it’s an important game, it’s a beautiful programme by nature and we want to go out there and win.

The Dutchman said: “To be absolutely honest with you, I don’t need fuel [of revenge] to be absolutely ready, but it’s the Champions League, it’s a massive game, a beautiful fixture for the neutral and we want to be on top and come out of it with a win.

“Listen, the fact is that I have never beaten them. That record (no wins in eight) is a very disappointing stat so it’s down to recovery and getting ready for a big one and I am looking forward to it.”

Liverpool are the only team with a perfect record after four games in this season’s Champions League. Real meanwhile are in a far more precarious predicament and, in the new 32 team league format, sit in 18th having won two and lose two of their four games.

“Listen, the fact that I haven’t beaten them, the record (no win in eight games) is a big disappointment. “

So it’s about recovering and getting ready for the big game. And I’m looking forward to it.”

The Merseyside giants last beat Madrid in the last 16, where they won both legs 1-0 and 4-0 respectively.
